Mariclaro is a small design collective of Mexican, German and Canadian artists, whose aim is to create functional and aesthetically interesting bags from recycled materials, and to pay fair wages. We support fair trade and sweatshop free production. We are making our bags in Mexico and Canada. In Germany we are starting. For more information yo can visit the specific country web page.

Mariclaro bags are not just a simple accessory for transporting computers, personal items or groceries, every bag made by Mariclaro is a unique design, made from recycled vinyl event posters, making them water resistant and durable. Each bag is designed and hand cut by members of the collective. The straps are made from seat belts reclaimed from auto scrap yards. The liners for the laptop compartments are made from recycled clothing or other recycled material.

The idea was born in Campeche Mexico, out of two facts. First, in this region the recycling culture is not well developed. Second, there are a lot of usable materials including a large variaty of vinyl event posters all over the place. Our collective was created on a specific night in Campeche and the names of the three ladies at the table (and in our collective) Marilyn, Claudia and Rosie were put together to create Mariclaro. Sven and Juan Pablo were also at the table, but decided that their names were not as pretty.

The collective is looking forward building up an recycling fond to support the recycling culture.

Mariclaro is currently seeking retailers who are interested in selling their bags. We are looking for stores in Canada and in the U.S. The Stores should have a eco friendly philosophy. We are open to discuse the terms and conditions. Our aim is to create a win win situation for the collective and the retailers involved.
